Lesson #28

Obedience

Knowing God?s Will and Doing It

Obedience is doing what God whats you to do and to do it when He wants you to do it, and to do it with the proper or right heart attitude. Obedience if the act of submitting ones will to the will of God. Therefore knowing God?s will becomes paramount to doing God?s will. Are you an obedient child of God? Do you know what His will is for you so that you may exercise it in your life? In order to be obedient we must know his will, then we choose to be obedient ot disobedient children.

    Focus:

Read: II Peter 3:9God is not willing that any should perish.
God does not will people to perish. He is willing for them to be saved. But people must be willing to be saved; be willing to be obedient to that ever extended invitation??for whosoever shall call call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved?. As in salvation also as in Christian living, God?s will is supreme only if we submit our will to Him in willing obedience.
Matthew 26:39Not as I will, but as thou wilt. Jesus is the
example of not only yielding to the will of the Father but of exercising and demonstrating perfect obedience.
Acts 26:19Paul was not disobedient to the heavenly
vision. Paul also is an example of obedience to the revealed will of God in his life and ministry. To love the Lord is to know His will and to obey it.
Mark 3:35The follower of Jesus shall do the will of
God. To do God?s will is to enter into a deep and personal relationship to Christ.
Ephesians 6:5-7With yout heart do the will of God. In
serving God and men it is His will that we be servants of Christ.
I Samuel 15:22To obey is better than sacrifice. It is God?s
will that we be obedient to His will.

Question: Why is obedience and the will of God so interwoven in Scripture?

    Personal Response:

Explain: What implication does the will of God and obedience have in the Christian life? In your life?

    Scripture Assurance:
Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
