Lesson #45

The Church

Serving God with what you have: in and through the Church.
The Christian's Treasure

All that we are or ever hope to be as Christians is because of the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. As Paul has said, we are not our own, "we've been bought with a price." Therefore, all that the Christian has is His; our possessions, our treasures, whether rich or poor. All belong totally to Him. Nevertheless, God allows us to be stewards of that which He so bountifully has blessed us with. This He gives to meet the Christian's needs' and in some instances, his desires. God does ask us thought to give to His church and His work, so that it might function in propagating the Gospel of Christ to a dying and needy world of People. Offerings and giving gifts of love are thus part of the Christian's life as he, in a very tangible way, supports God's work in this age. As Jesus Christ gave... so ought the Christian give.

    Focus

    Read:
    Psalms 50:10-13 Everything is God's.
I Corinthians 16:1-2 Upon the first day of the week. The essential features of Christians' giving are: the time, the consistency, the participants, the basis of giving, and the way to give which are reflected in these verses.
II Corinthians 8:1-2,7-11 That ye abound in this grace also. The Christian's giving is to prove the sincerity of his love for God, his church, his people, and his cause.
Phillippians 4:15-19 But I desire fruit that may abound to your account. The Christian's giving allows the harvest of souls to continue in order to build up the church of God and the family of God. It is good to have such fruit to abound to one's accounts!

Scripture Assurance: II Corinthians 9:6-8 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work.

Scripture Memory: Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
